Unparalleled Comfort from Extreme Lightness

Despite featuring micro OLED panels with world-class resolution, we've achieved a remarkable lightness of 179 g (6.3 oz) through meticulous weight reduction—paying attention to component thickness down to 0.1mm, and a thorough lightweight design.
Our "near-zero facial pressure" design makes this extraordinary lightness possible, which supports the weight solely through a thin, flexible head strap and the forehead area. Facial pressure refers to the force exerted on the corners of the eyes and cheeks by typical VR headsets*. Many users have likely experienced marks around their face, pain, or redness in the eye corners and cheeks after wearing a VR headset for extended periods. The MeganeX superlight 8K's light shade lives up to its name with a fluffy, soft design that merely blocks light. Almost no pressure even when it touches your face.

*Note: This is our company's terminology and definition.

Emotionally Impactful VR Rendered in HDR 8K

The MeganeX superlight 8K, with its 90Hz refresh rate and 4K resolution per eye (3552 x 3840 pixels), boasts one of the highest pixel counts compared to existing heavyweight headsets. Moreover, it enables VR experiences with rich 10-bit HDR color expression when used with compatible applications running on SteamVR™.

Translating the 4K resolution per eye (3552 x 3840 pixels) into pixel count yields 27.27 million pixels. As of October 2024, this ranks among the highest pixel counts in consumer VR headsets.
By adopting OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology, where each element is self-illuminating, the MeganeX superlight 8K achieves a level of dark scene representation that is dramatically superior to LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), which uses backlighting. Dark scenes viewed through the MeganeX superlight 8K are not just black, they're indeed 'jet black'. This black expression delivers high-contrast, clear, and crisp imagery that will truly immerse you in your VR experience.

Physical Pass-through Offers Excellent Visibility

You feature a physical flip-up mechanism structure that allows one-handed lifting and securing above the forehead. Whether for creator use-cases alternating between Blender/Unity and VR spaces, quickly sharing photos on SNS or Discord, you can use your physical eyes' response and resolution. It's no frustration compared to camera based pass-through. Conversing with colleagues is as easy as lifting and lowering sunglasses for business use. FlipVR controllers allow seamless transitions between reality and VR space without releasing the controllers - flip the controllers, then flip up the MeganeX superlight 8K, and that's it.

IPD Adjustment and Diopter Adjustment

This ultra-compact, super-lightweight body incorporates a 58mm-72mm motorized interpupillary distance (IPD) adjustment. It is easily adjustable while viewing VR via a controller or PC app. The PC app supports one-click IPD adjustment by numerical input, eliminating tediously repeated button presses when sharing among multiple users in business settings or families. Additionally, it supports diopter adjustment with a diopter range of 0D to -7D, allowing precise, sharp visual experiences for most users with up to 20/100 myopia without additional lenses. The focus adjustment dial is on the outer casing for fine-tuning while viewing VR content. For those with hyperopia, astigmatism, or myopia beyond 20/10, please use the MeganeX superlight 8K-specific add-on prescription lens sold separately (Will announce soon). These add-on prescription lenses attach magnetically for easy installation when shared among multiple users.

Adjustment Mechanism Accommodates Various Face Shapes

Correct positioning of lens positioning eyes is crucial for VR headsets using pancake lenses. Our unique adjustment mechanism allows for customization of the forehead pad angle and the distance between the lenses and the face, fitting various facial structures and accommodating differences in forehead angles and eye depth.

Comfortable Even When Lying Down

We've achieved a structure without hard plastic or metal components on the temporal or occipital regions. This eliminates discomfort even when lying down during extended VR sessions - another feature made possible by the ultra-lightweight design. The forehead pad, which may wear or get dirty with long-term use, is easily removable and replaceable (sold separately as an optional accessory later). We've also pre-prepared holes at the top of the forehead pad for adding a top strap, allowing easy customer customization based on head shape or use case (top strap not included).

USB Type-C Expansion Port for Connecting Earphones and More

The bottom of the unit provides a USB Type-C expansion port.
While the MeganeX superlight 8K features high-performance built-in dual microphones, we've omitted speakers, recognizing that audio preferences vary. This expansion port lets you connect your preferred audio devices, such as USB earphones or headphones. It connects directly to the PC via USB 2.0, enabling earphone mics and the potential connection of facial or hand tracker.

SteamVR™ Tracking Compatible

SteamVR™ tracking method uses Steam base stations 1.0/2.0, enabling high-precision head tracking that is less affected by the environment, e.g., darkness. It is compatible with your existing FlipVR, Valve Index, or VIVE controllers. A dedicated X2 dongle (USB connection) for connecting two controllers is also included.

*Controllers are not included.

Handheld Pole Adapter for Quick VR Experience

We recognize the frequent need for quick VR space checks without controllers for personal and business use, so we've included a handheld pole adapter.
This adapter, attachable to the bottom of the unit, features a 1/4-20 UNC female thread used in camera tripods. A camera monopod allows quick VR experiences, like looking through a magnifying glass: Multiple-person 3D space checks or 3D content experiences at exhibitions.

FAQ

Q. Are there speakers or a microphone?

It features dual built-in microphones. While there are no speakers, you can connect earphones or a headset via the USB-C port located on the bottom of the device.

Q. Can I use a standard USB-C to 3.5mm adapter to connect my current headphones?

Yes you can. The built-in USB-C port at the bottom of the headset gives you a lot of flexibility to use your own audio solution with the headset. You can use a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter to connect your current headset, you could use USB-C headphones or you could use wireless headphones that come with a USB dongle.

Q. What is FOV and PPD?

We have decided against publishing official FOV and PPD numbers. If an industry-standard measurement method were established, such as the method used to calculate fuel consumption for automobiles, we would disclose our figures, but this is not the case in the current VR industry.

Q. Does MeganeX superlight 8K come with a cable?

The package contains a converter box that connects to your PC with a displayport and USB cable (both around 1m) as well as a power adapter. Also included is a 3m USB-C to USB-C cable that connects the MeganeX superlight 8K to the converter box. So overall you get around 4m which should be long enough for most users. If more is needed, you can purchase our additional 5m Active Optical USB Cable that replaces the 3m cable between MeganeX superlight 8K and converter box.

Q. What is the render resolution of SteamVR?

Our target render resolution is 4096 * 4096 pixels per eye.

Q. Will there be a 75Hz mode?

Currntly no, but we are considering offering it in the future.

Q. Will you have profiles in your software in order to store IPD values of different users to easily switch?

Yes, you can save up to 8 profiles.

Q. Are you using DSC?

Yes, we use DSC. The settins of DSC varies depending on the resolution and color depth being used.

Q. Do you offer OpenXR support?

OpenXR apps running on SteamVR will work; OpenXR apps cannot run without SteamVR.

Q. Does MeganeX superlight 8K have pass-through?

No, the MeganeX superlight 8K does not offer a pass-through function. Instead, users can flip up the headset if they need to peek into reality.

Q. Do I need Base Stations? Is one base station enough? Does it support inside-out tracking?

Yes, you will need Base Station for tracking. We recommend two Base Stations to get best results but if you only use one, that will work as well. It does not support inside-out tracking.

Q. Will the older base stations v1.0 also work?

Both Base Station 1.0 and 2.0 are supported.

Q. Does the MeganeX superlight 8K come with controllers? What kind of controllers are needed for MeganeX superlight 8K?

Controllers are not included. You need SteamVR Tracking compatible controllers like the Valve Index controllers, the Vive controllers or our own FlipVR controllers.

Q. Does the MeganeX superlight 8K have distortions?

Distortion occurs when the eyes are too close or too far from the lens. Distortion can also occur if the center of the lens and the center of the eye are misaligned. As with all VR headsets, a slight distortion is visible at the periphery of the field of view, but this is not unique to the MeganeX superlight 8K.

Q. If I order now, when can I get the device?

Our first shipments to the US and EU are scheduled for February to March 2025. You can expect delivery to your address within that time frame.

Q. Will I have to deal with my local customs office to get the MeganeX superlight 8K once it arrives in my country?

No, it is not necessary. Customs procedures will be handled by our company, allowing customers to easily receive their orders as if they were shipped domestically.

If that is not possible we supply you with an international shipping label that you just put onto the box and hand to your local service point. No need to pay any fees, we do that for you. After we repair or replace your unit, it will be back on the way to you.Of course, there will be a charge for any actions not covered by the warranty like dropping.

Q. Is wireless connectivity supported?

No, only for wired connection because battery makes HMD to heavier and bigger. We’re focused on comfort for long hours of use.
